Squalane: creams, oils and other treatments
Squalane, the ally of dehydrated skin
What is squalane ?
There are 3 types of squalane: animal squalane (which is absolutely not cruelty free), synthetic squalane, and vegetable squalane. Vegetable squalane is usually derived from olive oil. The olive pulp is extracted using a distillation system and hydrogenated to be transformed into squalane.
Why is squalane so effective for the skin ?
Squalane is naturally present in the skin, since it is a derivative of squalene, which constitutes 15% of human sebum. Its composition so close to that of the skin allows a more effective penetration than other ingredients and an excellent affinity. Squalane is well tolerated and offers many benefits for the skin.
What are the benefits of squalane ?
Squalane is above all an emollient agent that protects the skin from dehydration by maintaining its water level. Thanks to its good penetration, vegetable squalane repairs the skin in depth and acts against pigment spots and scars, it has strong regenerating properties. Squalane is also an antioxidant ingredient, it protects the skin from skin aging and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Finally, squalane strengthens the skin barrier, it acts as a shield against external and environmental aggressions.
Squalane, for which skin types ?
Vegetable squalane has no contraindications, it mixes very well with other products. It is a non-comedogenic super ingredient that is suitable for all skin types, but will be particularly useful for dry and dehydrated skin thanks to its emollient and protective properties. Squalane is also recommended for sensitive skin prone to irritation, and even oily skin because it helps regulate sebum production.
