How to know my skin type in 2 minutes
Rather dry, combination, oily ... do you really know what your skin type is? We do not always know our skin, and yet it is essential to choose a beauty routine adapted to its needs, la chouchouter et la sublimer. If you are a bit lost, this article is for you! Discover all our tips to make your skin diagnosis in 2 minutes.
Which are the different types of skin?
There are 4 skin types:
Normal skin type
Quite rare, it's the perfect skin that we all dream of! It produces just the right amount of sebum to stay hydrated, protected and comfortable without shining. Smooth, soft and radiant, it has no imperfections, does not tighten, and the pores are tightened.
Dry skin type
It is a skin that is sorely lacking in sebum which is tight, uncomfortable and flaky: the famous "crocodile skin". Quite dull and rough to the touch, a dry skin does not shine and its pores are tightened, almost invisible.
Oily skin type
In excess of sebum, an oily skin tends to shine all over the face. It is generally thicker, the pores are enlarged and the skin texture is irregular. It is prone to blackheads and blemishes.
Combination skin type
Between dry and oily skin, a combination skin is often rather oily on the T zone (where the sebaceous glands are most numerous) while the cheeks are dry and tight. The pores are visible, it can also present imperfections.
There is no one type of skin "better" than another, each has its advantages and disadvantages.
Once arrived at adulthood our skin type does not change or little (except with hormone treatment), and no care can change your skin type.
So learn to love your skin and pamper it with natural care that will help rebalance and make it radiate! #selflove
Knowing your skin type : the test
Observe your skin carefully and ask yourself the following questions:
Does my skin shine?
Do I have tight or large pores
Is my skin comfortable or is it tightening?
When I touch it, is my skin rather soft, rough, oily?
Do I have blemishes or blackheads?
Tip: observe your bare skin before applying your skincare products so that their effect does not affect your judgment, do it in the morning after waking up for example.
Here is a little summary table to help you see more clearly:
| Normal Skin type | Dry skin type | Combination skin type | Oily skin type |
ASPECT | smooth and fresh | dull complexion and flaking | Oily T Zone and dry cheeks | shiny |
TOUCH | soft | rough | uneven skin texture | oily |
DISCONFORT, TIGHTNESS | no | yes | cheeks | overall no but can tight if it is dehydrated |
BLEMISHISES, BLACKHEADS | no | no | yes | yes |
PORES | tight, barely visible | tight, barely visible | large pores on T zone | large pores on all the skin |
SHINE | no | no | on T zone | on all the skin |
The foolproof tip to finally know your skin type
Are you still hesitant? Take the handkerchief test!
Cleanse your skin without applying a moisturizer afterwards, and wait 30 minutes to an hour.
Place a tissue like a mask against your face, press for a few seconds and then observe the tissue:
If there is no trace of grease on the handkerchief, your skin is normal to dry.
If there are a few traces of grease in the T-zone only, your skin is mixed
If there are traces of grease on the entire handkerchief, your skin is oily.
Skin type or skin condition?
Be careful not to confuse skin type and skin condition!
The skin condition is grafted onto the skin type and can concern different skin types at the same time. Skin conditions can also add up to each other and will be just as important as the type of skin in choosing your cosmetics.
If our skin type does not change once we reach adulthood (except under the effect of hormone treatment), the state of health of the skin changes.
Skin conditions :
Sensitive skin : C’est une peau fragilisée qui réagit de façon démesurée aux agressions extérieures mais aussi au stress et aux émotions. Elle tiraille, démange, et présente généralement des rougeurs persistantes.
Dehydrated skin : Thirsty skin, lacking in water (not to be confused with dry skin, lacking in fat). Dehydration can affect all skin types, even combination to oily skin. Uncomfortable, the skin feels tight without flaking, and has fine lines. The good news ? It is a punctual state which can be stopped by adopting the right gestures!
Mature skin : We speak of mature skin from menopause or pre-menopause, around 40-50 years generally. With age the production of collagen and elastin decreases, causing sagging skin, loss of elasticity and firmness, wrinkles and age spots.
Acne-prone skin : Contrary to popular belief, acne is not reserved for oily skin or adolescents! Many women suffer from hormonal acne at any age. Acneic skin must be treated gently, the challenge is to find effective care against imperfections without attacking or drying the skin.
