Dark spots, hyperpigmentation: what is it?
We speak of pigment spots when the pigmentation of the skin is uneven. These darker spots are caused by excess production of melanin by cells called melanocytes which get carried away.
In reality, dark spots are not directly linked to age but rather to sun exposure, combined with certain factors.
Why do I have dark spots on my face?
So what are these famous brown spots due to? Several factors come into play:
Sun exposure, of course!
Skin aging: with age the skin's ability to regenerate decreases, making it more prone to spots
Hormonal upheaval (pregnancy in particular, or contraceptive pill)
Genetic factors (in this case unfortunately there will not be much to do)
The use of photosensitizers (cosmetics or certain drugs)
Free radicals (pollution, tobacco ... which often go hand in hand with an irregular complexion)
4 types of pigment spots
There are thus different types of brown spots, which are not always treated the same way:
Melasma or pregnancy mask:
In the event of hormonal disturbances during pregnancy, areas of hyperpigmentation may appear on the face, such as on the upper lip or on the forehead. This is also the case with taking certain pills..
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation:
These are the acne scars in particular. These are pigment spots that settle after poor healing of a pimple or other skin trauma (injury, bite, etc.)
Les taches de vieillesse :
Dark spots are part of the signs of skin aging, which generally appear around 40 years on the areas most exposed to the sun (face, hands, and décolleté).
Sunspots:
You have no doubt already noticed these brown spots that appear after returning from the holidays or following prolonged sun exposure, which we would do without. We talk about photoaging of the skin.
Attention if the brown spots are generally benign and not dangerous for health, you should not hesitate to consult a specialist in the event of suspicious development (change in color, size, appearance, shape, etc.).
Can you really get rid of age spots?
Cosmetics will not always remove stains (especially the older ones) but will at least help to reduce them.
Prevention is the key with compulsory daily sun protection! To put the odds on your side, limit exposure to the sun and treat spots as soon as they appear: the longer you wait, the more difficult they will be to remove.
You have to be able to show patience: for a problem like pigmentation spots you will have to wait several weeks or even months to see the results of your care (we do not forget that the cycle of skin renewal is 28 days!)
In case of stains installed if the cosmetics are not sufficient it may be necessary to use the laser or an LED treatment.
Retinol, AHA, vitamin C: what does really works on dark spots?
What natural active ingredients to bet on to fade age spots?
exfoliating active ingredients to reduce dark spots and even out the complexion, antioxidants to repair damage caused by UV rays, and regenerating active ingredients which boost cell renewal.
Our 5 essential anti stains:
AHAs :
Also called fruit acids, they offer a real peeling effect. AHAs unify the complexion by blurring spots and imperfections, smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, softening and revealing the radiance of the skin. Lactic acid, glycolic acid… AHAs are must-haves for an even complexion!
Retinol & its alternatives:
A benchmark anti-stain active ingredient, retinol or vitamin Astimulates cell renewal, improves skin texture, and repairs damaged or mature skin. It is an excellent anti-aging activity, which promotes the healthy renewal of skin cells.
For those who cannot tolerate retinol, opt for bakuchiol which offers the same benefits without the risk of irritation! From the Ayurvedic babchi plant, it boosts collagen production and skin regeneration, for formidable effectiveness against acne spots and scars.
Vitamine C :
A powerful antioxidant, vitamin C has the ability to regulate the production of melanin and stimulate the synthesis of collagen. It neutralizes free radicals and protects from external aggressions causing photoaging, making it an ally of choice against pigmentation spots and scars. Vitamin C improves skin texture and awakens dull complexions, and is also a recognized anti-aging active ingredient.
Niacinamide:
Also called vitamin B3, niacinamidestimulates the production of collagen and relieves many skin conditions. Anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, it visibly reduces pigmentation spots and scars.
Wild rose oil:
Rich in natural vitamin A, it is the regenerating vegetable oil par excellence, ideal for combating spots, scars, or stretch marks. Also called rosehip oil, it is an anti-aging oil that mature skin loves.
What natural anti-stain routine for my skin?
4 anti-stain gestures to adopt:
1 / Sun protection
This is the most important step to fight against dark spots! We adopt daily sun protection in any season: in town, we can opt for a day cream or foundation withintegrated SPF, while for a tanning session we draw an organic SPF 50 sunscreen.
2 / Exfoliation
Exfoliation helps boost skin renewal but also promotes penetration and the effectiveness of treatments applied afterwards. Once or twice a week exfoliate your skin with an enzymatic or mechanical scrub, or a peeling effect mask with AHA, salicylic acid or enzymes. fruits. And why not adopt an exfoliating lotion to apply daily, and/or an exfoliating cleanser.
Please note that this type of exfoliating treatment should be reserved in the evening preferably, and reinforces the need to wear sun protection.
3/ Anti dark spot serum
Concentrated in active ingredients, the serum is the best way to treat a skin problem in a targeted and effective way. To prevent and treat age spots without changing your entire routine, the easiest way is to include an anti-stain serum, to be applied before your beauty cream or oil.
Serum with vitamin C, retinol, niacinamide, enzymes, and fruit acids … You have the choice!
Select your serum according to your skin type and your other problems: sensitive, mature, acne-prone skin… each skin has its needs.
For sensitive skin, we recommend Vital B Mukti serum with niacinamide which also helps to treat the redness. For dull skin or to combat the first signs of aging, opt for an antioxidant vitamin C serum like John Masters Organics Vitamin C Serum. For mature or acne-prone skin (not sensitive) opt for an intense regenerating treatment such as a retinol serum to be applied in the evening, such as Vital A Mukti.
Looking for an anti-stain serum at a low price? Opt for Evolve's serum Bio-Retinol + C Booster.
4 / The regenerating oil
The organic face oil is a real ally against stains, to be applied in the evening preferably to boost the regeneration of the skin during the night. A few drops are enough to massage on wet skin.
The derma roller, effective or not?
You've surely heard of this beauty accessory to get a makeover.
This roller with micro-needles boosts cellular renewal and healing, thus promoting the production of collagen as well as the reduction of fine lines and skin spots.
The derma roller works by micro-needling, i.e. a light exfoliation by microscopic needles. These needles create micro channels on the surface of the skin, facilitating the penetration of care for tenfold efficiency.
Does it really work? Yes, the before / after photos speak for themselves! Be careful, however, to choose an excellent quality derma roller with the finest needles possible, and to use it correctly so as not to risk damaging the skin. We have selected for you the Mukti derma roller which is easy to use and painless, for real efficiency.
For all skin types? No! The derma roller is not recommended for sensitive skin, as well as irritated, injured, infected skin.
Our anti-stain routines by skin type
For pregnant women (or very sensitive skin)
To avoid the appearance of the pregnancy mask, the ideal is to avoid exposure to the sun as much as possible and systematically apply an SPF outdoors. Opt for a safe mineral sunscreen for future moms like Acorelle, Biosolis, or Alga Maris organic sun creams, in SPF 50.
For pregnant women (or very sensitive skin).
In terms of care, we gently exfoliate our skin with a scrub like the enzymatic exfoliator Illumine from Denovo, we nourish with a regenerating oil like the oil with wild rosebush from at Pai Skincare, and if necessary we incorporate into our routine an anti-stain serum with the formula suitable for pregnancy and lactation like the Illumine Denovo, without essential oil, acid salicylic or retinol.
For mature skin
We can bet on beefier assets that will treat spots but also wrinkles and sagging skin, for an advanced anti-aging routine. The Brightening Tata Harper range is ideal for the most demanding skin and ultra-effective for dark spots.
In terms of sun protection, we are putting on anti-aging care formulas that can even replace a day cream such as the Exhale De Mamiel tinted moisturizer or the SPF 30 Madara anti-aging sunscreen.
For additional comfort, we adopt a regenerating oil such as Retinoic Nutrient Tata Harper oil, or 16 precious Okoko oil, enriched with bakuchiol.
For acne scars
We treat as soon as the button appears to avoid ending up with a scar that turns into a brown spot. We do not try to pierce his button, but we apply a local stop button treatment that calms the inflammation and promotes healing in the following days, such as the concentrated serum Bl + C Odacité or the Blemish Control Mukti.
In parallel, we exfoliate with scrubs or masks with AHAs which will help to get a new look, like the Peel Madara mask or the Tata Harper Resurfacing. We follow with a good honey mask that is both repairing, healing, and antibacterial, like the cult mask with manuka honey Aura Antipodes.
In terms of daily care, we opt for a non-comedogenic moisturizing treatment that treats both imperfections and scars like manuka honey cream Antipodes or faces oil L'Elixir de manuka Okoko, enriched in bakuchiol. If necessary, add an anti-stain serum to your routine that will also help soothe imperfections such as The Okoko Purity Elixir or the holi (c) Nateur Agent.
Use a dietary supplement to even out your complexion
Sometimes the skin needs a little boost to be in top shape. To overcome pigment spots, what better than to boost your beauty routine with a natural food supplement? Atelier Nubio "We want... A unifying booster" supplement reduces the appearance of spots, scars and redness. Its formula stimulates mirocirculation and boosts the cell healing process for smooth skin and an even complexion.
